Spring is Finally Here

Thursday, 8 April 2010 14:18:42 BST

After a long, cold winter spring is finally here.  The upside to the cold winter and the late spring is that the flowers and plants are now blossoming bigger and brighter than they have done for many years.  Now that we've past the spring equinox and the clocks have gone forward we already have a load of extra daylight hours - perfect for pottering in the garden after you get home from work and perfect, of course, for charging solar panels so that your solar lights keep shining

Planning for summer

Thursday, 26 March 2009 17:35:32 GMT

Well the sunshine lasted long enough to get out there and get some essential jobs done, even if it has returned to standard march winds now. I've even cut the lawn, I can never bring myself to spray it with all the chemicals necessary to get that perfect stripey look, but it'll do, if anyone has any organic suggestions for how to get rid of the weeds I'd love to know. Spring is Just Around the Corner

Thursday, 19 February 2009 16:56:35 GMT

I've been pottering around my garden a lot in the last few weeks and am amazed by the spring plants and widlife that are starting to appear. The fish are swimming hungrily around the pond, barely struggling to get past the vast quantities of frogs spawn and the fruity frogs jumping all around continuing to produce. The bird feed is going almost as soon as I put it out as the blue tits and chaffinches chase around trying to find nesting boxes. With all this action signifying the start of Read More

Packing Away the Xmas Lights

Wednesday, 7 January 2009 17:37:07 GMT

I’ve just packed away our Christmas lights, and I’m feeling pretty smug as opposed to the rest of the gaudy red flashing santas, with dangling electric wires, stretched across wet grasses, just waiting to electrocute the postman, our pretty blue fairy lights, were powered by daylight, and looked all the better for it, I don’t want to be a Christmas scrooge, but as much as I love getting into the spirit of it all, I don’t want a whopping electric bill either in January. Which is what Read More
